Director, Revenue Recognition

Location: Raleigh, NYC, Ottawa or Remote

Phreesia is looking for a Director, Revenue Recognition to join our growing team!

This person will be responsible for leading the company’s revenue recognition function and serve as a revenue recognition subject matter expert to meet the demands of its growing business, ensure compliance with respect to ASU 606, and adhere to strong internal controls for a publicly-held company. Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller with direct visibility to the CAO and CFO, this individual will be tasked with developing excellent working relationships with sales and legal.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage and streamline the revenue accounting process to improve clarity, efficiency and scale for growth
  • Research, access and document accounting implementations on the Company’s revenue transactions
  • Interpret contractual language to advise filed teams on and apply proper application of accounting policies
  • Review customer contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment in accordance with ASC 606
  • Develop strong business partnerships with sales, legal and other teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies, answer questions and be an enabler to business growth
  • Keep current on US GAAP and industry trends that impact revenue recognition
  • Coordinate with external auditors on technical accounting matters
  • Responsible for the company’s overall compliance with ASC 606 Revenue rom Contracts with Customers and ASC 842 Lease Accounting as it relates to revenue
  • Monitor standard setter activity and implement emerging accounting pronouncements
  • Work closely with billing team and advise for best practices as well as streamline current processes
  • Maintain accounting policy database
  • Work closely with accounting and internal controls team related to implementation of accounting standards and recognition/reporting of complex accounting matters and transactions
  • Assist with the preparation of annual and quarterly financial information reporting
  • Assist in the review of financial statements
  • Support the organization of accounting training

What You’ll Bring:

  • CPA required
  • Minimum of 8 years big four audit experience and relevant industry experience within a public company
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, MBA is a plus
  • Experience with performing complex accounting research and technical activities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Prior experience with SaaS based business and high growth environment
  • Ability to interact with various levels of finance personnel and be able to explain complex accounting in succinct manner; a good listener
  • Superior project and people management skills
  • Ability to multitask and work on several projects, ensure processes are followed and deadlines are met
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and project management skills
  • High degree of technical proficiency required
  • Workday experience preferred
  • Technology industry experience preferred
